Like buses, you wait a long time for one and two come along at the same time..

Canada waited a long time to win a Gold medal when hosting the Olympic Games, summer or winter.  On Sunday, Alex Bilodeau won the first ever Gold medal for the host nation.  Today, Maelle Ricker became the Olympic champion when she won the women’s snowboard cross event at Cypress Mountain.  It was an outstanding result for the local lass and she left the rest of her competitors trailing in her wake.  Canada has now won 5 medals.

Great Britain on the other hand is not doing so well.  David Murdoch and his team got off to a poor start this morning in the first session of the curling when they lost to Sweden.  It was always going to be a tough game but Team GB did not look like they were firing on all cylinders.

Come on David, get it sorted, I have been telling my friends that you and the boys will win Gold…don’t let me (and the country) down!

I have a few days off from my volunteering duties and today I went into Whistler Village to sample the Olympic atmosphere.  It was busy and there was a wide mix of people from all over the world.  The Norwegians and Americans were particularly visible.

I watched some of the Olympics on the big screen at Skiers Plaza and it was good to be there when a Canadian won.

It was great to be part of the whole experience.  Although the next time I go I will think twice about wearing my blue volunteer jacket as I was constantly being asked questions from the visitors.
