Sad day for sport

Earlier today at the Whistler Sliding Centre, Nodar Kumaritashvili, a 21-year-old men’s luger from Georgia, crashed and died during a 90 miles per hour training run for the Olympics..

I am saddened to hear of this tragedy and my thoughts are with Nodar’s family, the Georgian team, all Olympic lugers and all those involved in these Games.

This will no doubt will take the shine off tonight’s Opening Ceremony and the Games generally.

Georgia has still to decide if they will attend tonight’s OC or even stay in the Games.

Update: Georgia has confirmed it will be staying in the Games.
